In the wire size table below give the typical diameter of #14 copper wire as 2.05 to 2.32 mm or about 0.081 - 0.092 inches. The tables and notes below expand and provide detail about the ampacity and temperature ratings of various wire sizes and gives a brief history of U.S. NEC wire sizing table changes. The most important consideration is the amount of current that will be carried by the wire. The wire's size is indicated by gauge. The most common wire sizes used in car audio range between 4awg and 22awg. The larger the awg (American Wire Gauge) number, the smaller the wire size. I am planning on putting in a 14-50R outlet on a 50 amp breaker in my garage from a sub-panel in the garage for an EV charger. While the charger is only 32 amps, I figure that outlet is rated at 50 amps and the breaker is rated at 50 amps so I should use the correct wire size for the outlet and breaker. Wire will be THHN run in 3/4" PVC conduit. The following wire size chart is intended to be a general guide for wire size and amp ratings
